A string with one end fixed on a rigid wall, passing over a fixed frictionless pulley at a distance of 2m from the wall, has a point x mass 'M = 2kg attached to it at a distance of 1m from the wall A mass 'm' = 0.5 kg attached at the free end is held at rest so that beyond the pulley. What will be the speed with which mass 'M will hit the wall when the mass 'm' is released ? Edu (Take g = 9.8 m/s2) M M

solution : important aspects 1) the path point x mass will be curved such that it's tangent at every point is BD ( drawn in solution) 2)as this length is ✓5 , thus now string length is increased by ✓5-1,thus this is the height by which mass m2 is lifted up. 3) tangential speed of point mass will be equal to the Speed with which m2 will be lifted up.
