Age of granite rocks can be determined using Rb - Sr whole rock radioactive dating method and the following age equation, (Sr/Sr) = (*"Sr/Sr), + ("Rb/soSr) (e- ) 1) For a suite of representative co-magmatic granitic rocks, the Rb - Sr whole rock isochron plot and relevant data are shown in the diagram. The age of granite is calculated at --Ga (1 Ga = 10 yrs, give answer in one decimal place). Isochron Sr= 0.7004 tan=0.014301 A=1.42 x 10"yr" sTRb/Sr

    Answer: Age= (10)^9 years = 1.0 Ga The given equation of isochrone is in the form of y=mx+c Slope of isochrone(m)= [e^(lambda × time) - 1] tan(theta) = e^[1.42×(10)^(-11)×time] - 1 0.014301 = e^[1.42×(10)^(-11)×time] - 1 e^[1.42×(10)^(-11)×time] = 1.014301 1.42×(10)^(-11)×time = ln (1.014301) time = ln(1.014301)/[1.42×(10)^(-11)] time = 0.0142 × (10)^11 / 1.42 time = (10)^9 years
