    Alpha particles and protons are deflected in one direction while electron is deflected opposite direction of Alpha particles and protons and neutrons are not affected in magnetic field. therefore path 4 corresponding to electron and path 2 corresponding to alpha particles since alpha particles are heavier than the proton therefore they less deflected than protons. hence x=4 and y=2 and x+y= 6
