Stratotypes are a type of stratigraphic unit generally used for standard reference. Stratotypes are stratigraphic units named on the basis of locality where they are very well exposed. For eg. Ranipat Formation of Dhrangdhra Group is a stratotype, which is very well exposed nearby Ranipat village, Gujarat.
