S block has less covalent character than d block elements overall order HgCl2>cdcl2>zncl2 for d block for s block cacl2>srcl2>bacl2 Explanation:- we can apply fajan’s rule.. Which states “cation with smaller size and greater charge and anion with larger size and less charge has more polarizing power” So a more covalent compound is formed with smaller cation and larger anion.

    so order becomes hgcl2>cdcl2>zncl2> cacl2>srcl2>bacl2

please ask dear chandan if you have any doubt in this

    eduncle-logo-app

sir hg is bigger in size than cd than how hg is more showing covelent cherecter than cd

    eduncle-logo-app

see the attached image....here effective nuclear charge dominates

    eduncle-logo-app

as polarising power is inversly prop to size of cation

    eduncle-logo-app

yes but here due to diffused shape very low shielding is possible to down the grp polarising power and hence covalent character increases

    eduncle-logo-app

This is the order where fajans rule is less dominant

    tqq sir😇

sir i am not understanding anything in stereo chemistry part of this book can pls tell me any book or youtube chennal which helps me

    eduncle-logo-app

ps kalsi stereochemistry book is best...

    eduncle-logo-app

is that book is for bsc level?

    eduncle-logo-app

for jam and selected topic you can study from this book and watch j chemistry video but only that part which are there in syllabus

we can apply fajan’s rule.. Which states “cation with smaller size and greater charge and anion with larger size and less charge has more polarizing power” So a more covalent compound is formed with smaller cation and largerer anion. so in the case of Ca2+ ,Sr2+ and Ba2+ the covalent character is Ca2+ > Sr2+>Ba2+ but in the case of Zn2+ ,Cd2+, Hg2+ order will be reversed as HgCl2> CdCl2>ZnCl2> CaCl2>SrCl2>BaCl2

    Zncl2
