Cross beds are sedimentary structures form as a result of ripple propagation. Sediments are carried along the stream and due to reduced flow velocity in Lee side, they got deposited over that. Repeating the same process again and again leads to the formation of cross beds. For better clarification you can look at the attached figure. Figure shows the formation of cross stratification clearly. Feel free to ask if you have any doubt.

sir in my question. it shows cross bedding of sandstone. how it is

    eduncle-logo-app

Cross bedding is most common feature in sandstones. Sands are transported all the way from stoss side to Lee side and due to reduced flow velocity along lee side, they got deposited as a cross laminate of the ripple, which in turn upon preservation lead to the generation of cross beds.

sir can we say... except this pattrn....any other patterns of deposition will be considered as cross bedding?

Cross bedding form always at an angle to the bounding surfaces. For your reference, I have attached a figure which contains different types of cross beddings.

As the dune prograces the stoss side gets eroded and the Lee side is preserved .after one wind current another wind after another wind and so on so the stoss side will be eroded but on the Lee side one after another layer is being added up. see the figure below This is the act of dune migration. it depends on climb angle of stoss side also.

sir..wt exactly the cross beds meaning....

    eduncle-logo-app

i got that.. on steep side layer aftr layer is depositing. is it cross bedding?

    eduncle-logo-app

yes gurmeet it's that after consolidation in millions of years

see the figure cross beds are inclined beds to the horizontal
