Q1. What is UGC NET JRF and SRF?
Ans. JRF stands for Junior Research Fellowship and is a 2 years research program awarded to UGC NET JRF qualified candidates.
SRF stands for Senior Research Fellowship which is awarded after the promotion from JRF. The duration for SRF is 3 years.
Q2. Does a JRF upgrades to SRF automatically?
Ans. No, the promotion is not automatic and has a process involved.
As per the official guidelines, after the completion of JRF period of 2 years, work of the research fellow will be evaluated by the experts. If it is found satisfactory, the tenure will be extended further for the period of 3 years under the SRF.
Q3. Will a JRF be promoted to SRF if his work is not found satisfactory?
Ans. In case, the work of JRF is not found satisfactory for the first 2 years, an additional year will be given to him/her for improvement and he/she will be designated as a JRF. After that one year the work is again evaluated and if found satisfactory, the fellow will be promoted to SRF for 2 years.
Q4. How can I do PhD. after NET JRF?
Ans. After qualifying for the NET JRF, you have 2 years to avail the fellowship.
After availing, you will get JRF for the tenure of 2 years and you have to apply for the PhD program within this tenure.
Q5. What is the validity of JRF Award?
Ans. The JRF letter of award is only valid for 2 years after the declaration of results. The candidates can apply for the research fellowship program in these 2 years and get the benefits of UGC NET Scholarship.
Q6. What is the difference between UGC NET JRF, CSIR JRF and ICAR JRF?
Ans. CSIR NET JRF is the research fellowship program for the science stream whereas ICAR JRF is for students belonging to the Agriculture field. For research in all other non-science streams/field, a candidate must appear for UGC NET JRF exam which is conducted for 81 subjects.
