    See the charge transfer

    NO is a pi acceptor ligand. Pi ligand can make complex with metal of low oxidation state

    Ni(CO)4 ni is in zero oxidation state

    So definitely it is lmct

    See this . It is due to ligand to metal change transfer.

    Complexes having colour due to the phenomenon of charge transfer e.g the brown ring complex [Fe(H2O)5NO]SO4 can be roughly said as a charge transfer complex. Basically it means a complex exhibiting charge transfer. In complexes charge transfer can be classified as ligand to metal charge transfer and metal to ligand charge transfer. The classification is based on the path of charge transfer considered e.g in the brown ring complex the ligand NO changes from 0 oxidation to +1 and giving an electron to Fe+2 and changing it from Fe+2 to Fe+1. so the electron is transferred from NO to Fe+2 and charge is transferred from Fe+2 to NO as under: Fe+2 + NO——-> Fe+1 + NO+ Thus, the brown ring complex is said to exhibit metal to ligand charge transfer. Charge transfer generally have transition energy in visible region of the electromagnetic spectrum, so colour is observed.

    but sir here Fe2+ oxidised into +3 O. S. and NO reduced to NO-1...and also Fe+1 is unstable

    check above explanation.Fe+2 + NO——-> Fe+1 + NO+

    here Fe+2 accept 1e from NO to convert Fe+1 so it Shows LMCT

    In brown ring complex, iron exists in +1 due to transfer of one electron from NO and in +1 oxidation state iron has 3 unpaired electrons. The color of the complex is due to the charge transfer
