Calculate the expansion work done when 50 g of water is electrolysed under constant pressure at 25°c.

H2O ---> H+ + -OH w= -nRTl(V2/V1) since no value for Volume is given. w= -nRT w= (50/18)*8.314J/K/mol*298K)., is this right?? but the answer is -10KJ where have I made mistake? please make me clear sir🙏🏽

    got this??

on electrolysis of water. it decomposes into hydrogen ion and hydroxy ion. is that not so sir??

    eduncle-logo-app

yes, water undergoes self ionsiation to form hydronium ion and hydroxyl ion

    eduncle-logo-app

but in the answer it is decomposed to hydrogen and oxygen sir?

    eduncle-logo-app

Electrolysis of water is the decomposition of water (H2O) into oxygen (O2) and hydrogen (H2) due to an electric current being passed through the water.

when self ionisation or autoionisation of water occurs then 2 molecules of water breaks into hydronium ions and hydroxyl ions
