    Benzyne is highly reactive intermediate. it is very difficult to isolate. Responsible for nucleophilic substitution in benzene.

    In acetylene triple bond is formed by overlapping of p orbital but in benzyne triple bond is formed by overlapping of sp2 hybrid orbital. So This is abnormal.

    This bond is very strained & very unstable. Sp2 hybrid orbital can't do effective sidewise overlapping which is needed for pi bond formation
