https://doubtnut.com/question-answer-chemistry/a-sigma-bond-may-be-formed-by-the-overlap-of-two-atomic-orbitals-of-atoms-a-and-b-if-the-bond-is-for-14625878 check this video solution shib

    eduncle-logo-app

    see this...

    eduncle-logo-app

sir please give the concept here

    eduncle-logo-app

yes shib as you know sigma bond is formed by axial overlapping or head on overlapping and if you have given which is here internuclear axis then you solve by overlapping along the axis otherwise take z axis as internuclear axis

    eduncle-logo-app

This overlap may involve s-s, s-p, s-d or even p-d orbitals

    eduncle-logo-app

so orbital which is given as axial orbitals...by overlapping axial orbitals...sigma bond is formed

    eduncle-logo-app

    got shib??

    eduncle-logo-app

this is all about concept reagarding sigma bond formation...see the above solution you get more clear idea

Shib here you need two information.

    eduncle-logo-app

sigma bond is formed by head on overlapping.

    eduncle-logo-app

Here bond formation is taking place in x direction.

    eduncle-logo-app

    Now you can solve

    eduncle-logo-app

s & Px can only form sigma Bond in x direction

    eduncle-logo-app

    Got it Shib

    eduncle-logo-app

sir px and px also form sigma and px and s also form sigma so .a and c can be the answers

    eduncle-logo-app

But in option A : s & Pz is mentioned. so it is not answer

    eduncle-logo-app

In option C : Pz & Px is mentioned. So this is also incorrect

    eduncle-logo-app

Now Did you get this Shib

    eduncle-logo-app

    yes sir 😅
