At present, paleo-tsunami deposits cannot be distinguished from paleo-cyclone deposits using sedimentological features alone, without historical information. The future success of distinguishing paleo-tsunami deposits depends on the development of criteria based on systematic synthesis of copious modern examples worldwide and on the precise application of basic principles of process sedimentology.

No, paleo tsunami cannot be identified by herringbone structure. Herringbone cross-stratification is a type of sedimentary structure formed in tidal areas, where the current periodically flows in the opposite direction. Herringbone structures cannot develop successively in thick layers in a tsunamiite bed.

I had doubt whether Hummocky cross stratification helps is identification of paleo tsunami. Are they same?

Yes, Hummocky cross stratifications can help in identification of paleo tsunami. Herringbone structure and Hummocky cross stratifications are different. Hummocky cross stratifications are characteristic of storm/tsunami deposit whereas herringbone structure only indicates tidal environment (bipolar flow).
