Time management is very much important in IIT JAM. The eduncle test series for IIT JAM Mathematical Statistics helped me a lot in this portion. I am very thankful to the test series I bought from eduncle.

I just needed to know that there are 3 elements for each random variables and both the random variables are independent so the p(x=-1,y=-1) must be equal to (1/3)*(1/3)=1/9.isnt it right can you clarify me about this.
no this is incorrect . actually marginal probability given in the solution is also incorrect hope this will help u
p(x=-1,y=-1)=p(x=-1)*p(y=-1)=(1/6)*(1/2)=1/12
similarly find joint prob for every case
can you give a intitution on why P(x=-1)has 1/6 (please solve my doubt as I have recently developed intrest in math)
P(X=-1)=summation over y P(X=-1,Y=y)
So P(X=-1)=P(X=-1,Y=-1)+P(X=-1,Y=0)+P(X=-1,Y=1)
thus P(X=-1)=1/12+1/18+1/36=1/6
similarly obtain all marginal probabilities. note: column sum give u marginal prob of x and row sum give u marginal prob of y
see this attachment here I calculate all mariginal probabilities of x and y and also sum of marginal probability which is equal to 1
thanks bro
can you please explain me how you got that 1/12,1/18,1/36 values
it's given in question
