Well, above discussions are true. it depends on University to University. I just want to add my views, if you are not sure about which department you should persue your PhD, then opting for M.Sc. would be better. After M.Sc. you can do your PhD from abroad too. But at this time, I would suggest you to prepare for all exams and interviews. having more options is always a better. The interviews will give you a good experience. Best regards

i don't want to give u details on integrated PhD and msc-phd dual degree program, other two explained it very well.. I suggest u that if u r sure to do PhD then u can join IPhd otherwise it's better to do M.Sc then after M.Sc u can qualify JRF,Gate, and GRE also( this is the best opportunity to go abroad for higher studies).. I also suggest u that if u want to do IPhd that it's better that u join research centers like iiser, Iisc,tifr,icts... hope for the best .. good luck.

There are mainly two differences in a MSC-PhD integrated ( also known as I-PhD) and Dual degree i.e 1) in dual degree you get two degrees after the completion ( msc and PhD ) and yes it is true you can leave after 2-3yrs depending on the college ( like in IIT kgp ,it's dual degree ,and you can leave after 3 years ) ,but for I-phd you get only one degree that is a Doctrate ( PhD) and here I would like to tell you, one can also leave I-phd depending upon the college. 2) main difference lies in course work ,in Dual degree ,for first 2 years you follow the curriculum of msc and then a PhD fellow whereas in I-phd after 1/1.5yr( depending on the some minimum credits demanded by the University) one is into the research . And here comes the most important thing , which is best ,it totally depends on individual, how one sees his future. But if you are not sure of doing a PhD or one lacks the curiosity to know physics very deeply and need more time ,then I would highly recommend to go for MSC ( general) ,because this will give you a correct exposure and time to think of what more you can do and tinker your curiosity more towards physics and build the necessary concepts one need for doing good in research field.

The only difference between them is that in 'M.Sc-P.hd integrated  programme' you cannot leave without completing your P.hd.If you leave you leave in between you will not be awarded M.Sc degree even after two years. While dual M.sc-Phd gives you the option to move out with a Masters degree if you do not want to study further. Now you can choose according to your need.
