    therefore we see that on coming out of polarizer, unpolarised light's intensity reduces to half.

    unpolarised light has its components in all directions. all the components are divided into two perpendicular components along X and Y axis. now half of light has component along polarizer axis and half is perpendicular to polarizer's axis. so the intensity along the polarizer axis is transmitted while perpendicular to it is stopped
