Could yu please explain how these kind of terms are assigned ?

    These are used in CFT\nThe high spin and low spin are the actual quality of a ligand. High spin ligands are low field strength and low spin ligands are of high field strength. T2g, a1g etc. These represents the subsets of energy levels(splitting) For strength and spin of ligand spectro chemical series is given

    First of all ground state term is assigned to different d configuration...And after that the total orbital momentum quantum number is spllited according to the degeneracy i.e 2L+1..and different Mullikens symbol is assigned accordingly... And at last excitation is possible between the states having same spin multiplicity....Check the attached image

    You have to check orgal diagram to understand these terms. here group state terms are those which have lowest energy in the orgal diagram for example d1 , d6 in octahedral (HS) and d4,d9 in tetrahedral field have ground state term T2g term while d1,d6(Td) and d4,d9(oh) have Eg ground state term
