Cu2+ is more stable than Cu+1 even Cu+1 contains d10 configuration. Stability depends on the hydration energy (enthalpy) of the ions when they bond to the water molecules. The Cu2+ ion has a greater charge density than Cu+ ion and thus forms much stronger bonds releasing more energy.

    got it??

    eduncle-logo-app

    what about in gaseous state

In aqueous solution Cu2+ is more stable than Cu+

    eduncle-logo-app

The Stability of Cu2+ is more than Cu+ as stability dependson the hydration energy of the ions when they bond to the water molecules. The Cu2+ ion has a greater charge density than Cu+ ion and thus forms much stronger bonds releasing more energy.

    got it Shweta??

    eduncle-logo-app

    what about in gaseous state

    eduncle-logo-app

Generally we are talking and comparing stability of Cu2+ and Cu+ in aqueous phase

    eduncle-logo-app

gaseous state main ionization enthalpy jr aacording btayenge

    eduncle-logo-app

    shyd

    eduncle-logo-app

but if we take in gaseous state then cu+

    eduncle-logo-app

    is more stable than cu2+

    eduncle-logo-app

Due to stable electronic configuration of Cu+

    eduncle-logo-app

    now got shweta??

    eduncle-logo-app

    ok

    eduncle-logo-app

but gaseous state main ionization enthalpy Jada lgti hai cu+ main

    eduncle-logo-app

Stable electronic configuration d10 hota hai cu+ ka so ye jyada stable hota hai gaseous phase me or aqeous me hydration enthalpy

    eduncle-logo-app

stable electronic configuration hai to jyada IE lagega hi na

    eduncle-logo-app

but this we compare for reactivity not stability shweta

    eduncle-logo-app

    see this

    eduncle-logo-app

You have value of Cu+ and Cu2+??

    eduncle-logo-app

    yes

    eduncle-logo-app

    no

    eduncle-logo-app

    send

    eduncle-logo-app

for stable oxidation state we compare sum of IE values

    eduncle-logo-app

Ex-Pt(II) and Pt(IV) which forms more stable complex...this we check by sum of IE values

    eduncle-logo-app

    ok

    eduncle-logo-app

    ok

    eduncle-logo-app

    check this shweta

    eduncle-logo-app

ok but Jo book main likha

    eduncle-logo-app

as far i know for complex formation stability with preferably O.S this comes into effect....wait let me check again if any exception or deviation in this

    eduncle-logo-app

    ok sir
