    Correct option would be (A). Earth dam Or embankment dams are mostly build on weak foundations and consists of earth materials but in rare cases gravels Or sand sized barrier. Check dam are usually constructed to check the situation of main reservoir. Rock fill dams are mostly constructed in the earthquake prone areas and permafrost prone areas also you can say.And constructed basically on moderately strong to weak rocks. Buttress dam are majorly built where the alternating strong and weak rocks are exposed, though main dam is constructed on strong rocks. If one considers the competent and incompetent rocks types, then the main dam will probably built on competent rocks(like sandstone, quartzite).
