    1) Index fossils are what that can be used to trace geological history of a certain period or era on a pronounced scale. This can be easily understood by taking example of renowned index fossil- Trilobite, which acts as an index fossil of cambrian period of paleozoic era. In abridged form one can say, those fossils which have wide geographical range but short geological range is considered as index fossil. Index fossils are widely used for defining boundaries in the geologic time scale and for the correlation of strata. On the other hand, It is already known that not all fossils are living fossils. Living fossils are special fossils which have retained their originality for millions of years and one cannot observe colossal change in their morphology or no body deformation has been seen. Best examples of Living fossils are - Lingula, Ginkgo. 2) MOR is characteristics of a divergent plate boundary which leads to extension. So I would say you can find normal fault dominating in the ridges(transform fault or strike slip fault can also be found, but if you are asked to select, then go with the normal fault ).
