I just give the answer of your question not the solution of DE. the motive to perform it that to achieve p1 as zero. i.e. we choose z as we get the p1=0 and so equation reduces to some standard form whose solutions we are either know or how to solve them that we know. in some expression you might be drop (2), but the purpose is always is that you have to got p1=0. some practice will help you when you need to drop the constant or when you have need to take it. but your target always is p1=0.
