1 show dipole moment but 2nd doesn't because 2nd have SIR effect so lone pair is not involved in resonance. so there is no charge separation

  • Suman Kumar Best Answer

Due to Steric inhibition of resonance lone pair of Nitrogen in 2nd compound does not participate in resonance

    eduncle-logo-app

No resonance means no charge will develop

    eduncle-logo-app

No charge separation no dipole moment

    eduncle-logo-app

In Ist Compound lone pair participate in resonance so nitrogen acquires +ve charge and NO2 oxygen -ve charge

    eduncle-logo-app

    yes sir now clarified

    eduncle-logo-app

    thank you sir

    eduncle-logo-app

    You are welcome Divya
