Time management is very much important in IIT JAM. The eduncle test series for IIT JAM Mathematical Statistics helped me a lot in this portion. I am very thankful to the test series I bought from eduncle.

o-Nitrophenol will have lesser dipole moment than p-nitrophenol. This is because of resonance. During resonance, OH group will be electron donating group and will carry positive charge, where as nitro group is electron withdrawing group and carries negative charge. More is the charge separation, more is the dipole moment...Charge separation is more in para nitrophenol followed by meta nitrophenol and orthonitrophenol.
Decreasing dipole moment : CH3Cl>CH2Cl2>CHCl3>CCl4. The bond dipolesC−H and C−Clare in opposite direction. In CH3Cl, the resultant of 3C−H bond dipoles is reduced by one C-Cl bond dipole. In CH2Cl, the resultant 2C−H bond dipoles is reduced by the resultant 2 C-Cl bond dipoles. Hence, the dipole moment of CH2Cl2 is lower than the dipole moment of CH3Cl. Similarly, CHCl3 has lower dipole moment than In CH2Cl2, The net dipole moment of CCl4 is zero because four C−Cl bond dipoles cancel each other.
got this?
No this 5A problem is not clear yet
which part?
How Dipole of CH2Cl2>CHCl3
in case of CHCl3, the three C-Cl bonds point to one side, so a moment equal to C-Cl bond is generated as a result. A moment of C-H bond is added to it. In CH2Cl2, the moment of two C-Cl bond points to one side
The resultant of 2 C-Cl bond and 2 C-H bond will be nearly in same direction which increases total dipole moment. However, in CHCl3 the resultant of 3 C-Cl bond makes some angle with C-H bond which relatively decreases total dipole moment.
owkay now i got it....
two Dipole (inside the plane and one outside the plane) is canceling the dipole of vertical Cl atom in case of CHCl3?
