In a whirl wind, the air from nearby region from nearby region gets concentrated in a small space thereby decreasing the value of moment of inertia considerably. Since, Iω = constant, due to decrease in moment of inertia, the angular speed becomes quite high.

In a tornado, the moment of inertia of air will go on decreasing as the air moves towards the center. This will be accompanied by an increase in angular velocity such that angular momentum is conserved.

In a tornado, the moment of inertia of air will go on decreasing as the air moves towards the center. This will be accompanied by an increase inangular velocity such that angularmomentum is conserved.
