The main reason behind it the heating effect of the apparatus. in Ac equipment there is chance of heating , and we know power dissipated is the square of the current, so to avoid or say reducing heating effect ac equipments aren't marked equally spaced in division scale.

while in Dc apparatus we use concept of magetic coil so no such loss.

AC ammeter is constructed on the basis of heating effect of electric current. Since the heat produce varies as the square of current (and not directly with current) the division marked on are not equally spaced. While DC ammeters are mostly PMMC(permanent magnet moving coil) ammeters which work on the principle of magnetic force applied on a moving current carrying wire. When current carrying conductor placed in a magnetic field, a mechanical force acts on the conductor, if it is attached to a moving system, with the coil movement, the pointer moves over the scale.
