    The metal ions which are most easily reduced corresponding to lower energy transition as in LMCT there is transfer of electrons from ligands to metal thus there is reduction of metal ion by ligand

    In moving down the group from top to bottom LMCT energy value increases

    As we move down the group from top to bottom there is increase in size of d orbitals which increases the potential energy...so the 5d orbital lies above the 4d level which lies above the 3d level..so transition from ligand to 3d is less than 4d and in 5d it is maximum
