    see as you know the precipitation occurs when cations and anions combine in aqueous solution to form insoluble precipitate...As suppose the any ions is taken in excess with respect to other ion then one ion acts as limiting ion and other is available in excess...so after combination some ions which is present in excess will remain as such in aqueous solution...
