Also called the vacuolar membrane, the tonoplast is the cytoplasmic membrane surrounding a vacuole, separating the vacuolar contents from the cell's cytoplasm. As a membrane, it is mainly involved in regulating the movements of ions around the cell, and isolating materials that might be harmful or a threat to the cell. Tonoplast is a single membrane that bounds the vacuoles and separates it from cytoplasm. In plants, tonoplasts facilitate uphill transport of many ions and other materials, making their concentration higher in vacuole than cytoplasm. So, the correct answer is 'Membrane boundry of the vacuole of plant cells'. The key difference between tonoplast and plasma membrane is that tonoplast is the membrane that encloses the central vacuole of a plant cell while the plasma membrane is the membrane that encloses the cytoplasm of a cell.
