option D cyclohexane From the data, cyclopropane and cyclobutane have significantly higher heats of combustion per CH2, while cyclohexane has the lowest heat of combustion. Explanation- number of Carbon atoms increases, heat of combustion increase so if we measured HOC at per CH2, then it will decrease. From the data, cyclopropane and cyclobutane have significantly higher heats of combustion per CH2, while cyclohexane has the lowest heat of combustion. This indicates that cyclohexane is more stable than cyclopropane and cyclobutane, and in fact, that cyclohexane has a same relative stability as long chain alkanes that are not cyclic.

In cyclopropane the angle strain is maximum. Hence, it is highly strained molecule and consequently most unstable. The angle strain in cyclobutane is less than cyclopropane. Hence, cyclobutane is more stable. This stability increases upto 6 membered rings, then decreases from 7 to 11 membered rings and from the 12 membered rings onwards attains the stability of 6 membered ring. Heat of combustion is a method of measuring chemical stability. Hence, cyclohexane has the lowest heat of combustion.
