H3P02 monobasic H3P03 dibasic Simply you can see the acidic hydrogen and the no of acidic hydrogen is its basicity. Because Basicity of an acid is defined as the no. of ionizable H+ ions or protons in that acid. The hydrogen which has direct bond with phosphorus cannot be ionised so it is not acidic hydrogen.

Basicity of an acid is defined as the no. of ionizable H+ ions or protons in that acid. The P-H bonds in oxoacids cannot go through ionization to give H+ ions whereas the H atoms which are attached with oxygen in P-OH form are ionizable. Hence, we can say that only the H atoms attached with oxygen cause basicity. As a result phosphorous acid, H3PO3 is dibasic due to the presence of two P-OH bonds whereas phosphoric acid, H3PO4 is tribasic due to the presence of three P-OH bonds.

sir is their any method to predict structure of Oxygen containing compound?

    eduncle-logo-app

    yes

    eduncle-logo-app

no, you have to remember structure

    ohkk

    eduncle-logo-app

you have given this one method but it won't work for oxygen containing compound

    eduncle-logo-app

yes, this will not work for oxaacids
