    Auxotrophic organisms are unable to synthesize many nutrients, they require enrich media for their growth. Prototrophic organisms are able to synthesize all nutrients required for their growth, so they do not require any enriched media. They grow well in minimal media. met+/ bio+/ thr+/ leu+ means met/ bio/ thr/ leu is present. The bacterial strain does not need that nutrient substitute in the growth media to grow. met/bio/thr/leu without a "+" sign means the strain lacks the nutrient substitute, hence, the strain requires the nutrient substitute in the growth medium to grow. In this problem, Strain 1 is met, bio, thr+, leu+ and Strain 2 is met+, bio+, thr, leu So, neither of the strains are prototrophic, rather both are auxotrophic. Both the strains will require enriched media to grow. None of the strains nor their mixture (since, exact transformation at the exact sites might not occur) will grow in minimal media. So, options 1), 2) and 4) are correct. The results will not comply with 3). Hope this helps.
