How do we construct the graph?

Example: Evaluate: max {2- x, 2, 2+ X}dx. Solution. To findmax {2-X,2,1+x when x <0 y = max{2- x, 2, 1 + x} = 2 - x when x >0 y = max({2 - x, 2, 1 + x) = 2 Plotting these curves on the XY plane Y 3t f(x) = max{2 - x, 2, 1 +x} Dk A -1 B 1 X -2 2 max 2-x,2,1+ x} = Area of shaded region = Area of square ABCD +Area of ADEF 2 x 2 + = 4+ x 1x 1 1 9 2
