How this compound possess plane of symmetry ?

    It is not always achiral Sahiba. It is conditionally achiral.

    but , how we know that conditions when it is chiral..

    see it is arabinaric acid when arabinose is oxidised..so when plane is passing through 3rd carbon...the upper half and lower half are same

    you know about plane of symmetry- vertical POS and horizontal POS..

    reflection is there due to vertical POS And if we apply horizontal POS then atom will be halves

    sir , if we divide the molecule into two halfs such that one half is the mirror image of another half ,than the compound possess plane of symmetry.But if we divide this molecule into tho halves...
