    phenyl group can show both +R or -R depends on attached group.. if attached group have multiple bond then it shows +R if attached group have lone pair then it show -R. If we talk about Inductive effect then phenyl group show -I effect because of sp2 carbons. Shweta, always remember that R is dominant over I effect

    yes due to +I effect of methyl group it decreases the acidity more and acidity of acetic acid decreases but in contrast in benzoic acid benzene ring tends to withdraw electrons and increases acidity
