dear, look here in the question, the given distance between space ship and asteroid is measured in earth frame so it the rest length(as we took earth to be at rest) so we calculate the distance with respect to spaceship frame.. and also note that the time is to be calculated in sec so don't forget to convert it into minutes...

    solution..

Because according to the spaceship it is at rest and the asteroid is approaching with a speed which can be found by velocity addition.

asteroid is moving towards spaceship is w..rt to earth(given in the question earth station measure)...

    eduncle-logo-app

and the velocity 0.28 is the velocity of spaceship w.r.t earth and given distance is measured in Earth frame so we have to find it in spaceship frame(because we have to calculate time in spaceship frame so it is required to know the distance in spaceship frame)

    hope you got everything ..

oh.. Yes mam got it.. sorry for the above confusion.. I thought that the velocity of asteroid is given in earth's frame. thanks
