I can't figure out the difference between semicyclic diene and exocyclic double bond. so help me with simple examples.

    Confusion is due to the diene systems. In semicyclic diene a part of double bond is attached to the ring( which is further elongated as a diene) In exocyclic double bond is double bond attached to the ring. (no need of diene systems) Semicyclic diene is a exocyclic double bond But exocyclic double bond is not semicyclic diene (as no diene system is needed in exo system)

    semicyclic diene is just the diene in which one double bond is part of ring and other is exocyclic that is outside the ring

    check this ...you can understand exocyclic double bond by considering homoannular diene and heteroannular diene...we see exocyclic double bond with respect to another ring
