I dont understand the union part

Then F, = [1, 2]. F,2. F,2 Since every closed interval is a closed set, therefore {F : n e N} is a family of infinite N of closed sets. We observe that F, uF = [1, 2] F,uFuF222 and so on. Indeed, U F = ]0, 2], which is not a closed set. n = 1

Try to figure out these intervals on the number line...or u can simply observe that [1,2] is properly contained in [1/2,2].... so if u take their union , you will get [1/2,2].... in the similar fashion u can proceed for others

But there while taking union getting [1/2,2]
