Dear Shifana! Lattice energy is always associated with crystal lattices and crystal lattices are formed by ionic compounds. So, lattice energy is the property of ionic compounds... lattice energy is directly proportional to the magnitude of the charges and inversely proportional to the distance between the cation and anion. So, lattices having ionic lattice points with more net charge and less seperation have higher lattice energy.

In general ionic character of a compound increases with increase in lattice energies

so is there any exception case??

    eduncle-logo-app

if the compound has more ionic character, it means that they will require a large amount of lattice energy to be broken into ions. This means that if a highly electronegative element bonds with a highly electropositive element the compound formed will possess highly ionic character and will require large amount of dissociation energy. This is the reason of this...exception case may be there but not exact idea about compound which show exception..Sorry for that
