    In the first case 3 bonds are possible. In the second case only 2 new possibilities are there since the possibility of the first residue and the second residue forming a bond was already considered in the first case. Like wise in the third case 1 new possibilities are there because the bond between the first-second residue and the second-third residue was already counted in the first case. 3+2+1=6. So the answer is 6.
