fcc is packing of an element. for, NaCl, it s not simply Na or Cl its a combination of both. in NaCl, each Na+ is surrounded by 6 Cl- and vice versa. so, coordination number is 6. ...

Metallic crystal in FCC has coordination number 12. NaCl is an ionic crystal having FCC structure in which coordination number of both cation and anion are 6.

because Na is surrounded by 6 Cl- ions and Cl- is surrounded by 6 Na+ so cordinatio ratio is 6:6
