In EM wave gamma (propagation constant ) is equal to real no.(x) plus complex no. (y) . then attenuation constant is given by real no. and in some book it given by complex no. , I confused which is true ? Mathew and saiduku is given real is attenuation constant and in David j Griffith it is given that complex is atennuation constant.

    hope these pages satisfy u,but I suggest u that u should follow Griffiths as bcz it is standard book and generally question paper come from it.. best regards.

    Attenuation constant is always real number. Even in Griffith, it is stated that , "The imaginary part of complex k, results in an attenuation of wave". I think you got confused in ...
