In this question where will ch3 be attach

    This is an Birch reduction followed by an SN2 reaction . And CH3 add at position where Amide group is attached with the 6 membered ring. And full mechanism is as below.

    Yes I think that first step would be birch reduction. And then EtOH will abstract a proton from the adjacent carbon. After that SN2 recation will take place.

    Though I have a doubt here, because the OEt will attack the carbonyl centre first,then the N containing ring will be ousted when the negative charge will return back.
