Basic of thermodynamics is required like what is component?what is phase ? what are the variables taken into consideration while considering components and also the( temperature pressure ). all the process like isothermal, adiabatic, isobaric etc. also you have to know the State function and path function more complicated derivation and formula not required . Phase rule formula you have to know properly and also the degree of freedom concept.... Jam student it's enough and don't go for ternary (3 component system ) go for phase rule related problems

Having deep knowledge of thermodynamics is not very important for phase diagram. Basic knowledge of thermodynamics is enough. In JAM exam, thermodynamics related to phase diagram will not come because thermodynamics is not a part of the syllabus. you can skip the thermodynamics or just go through the basic of thermodynamics. After that you should totally focus on phase diagram (especially 1 and 2 components system) because phase diagram is very important for JAM exam.
