many fine grained muds are deposited at a rate of about 1 centimetre per Thousand Years at this rate how long would it take to accumulate a sedimentary sequence half a kilometre thick, how to solve this type of questions, please help 🙂

    Answer: 50 million years Rate of deposition = 1 cm / 1000 years Thickness of sedimentary sequence = 500 m = 50000 cm Time taken (assuming constant sedimentation rate and ignoring compaction effect) = Thickness of sedimentary sequence / rate of deposition = [50000 cm] / [1 cm / 1000 years] = 50000000 years = 50 × 10^6 years = 50 million years
