Need an answer regarding this doubt of continental flood basalt! :/

continental flood basalt is occurring inside a continent with volcanic/fissure eruption... but We have read that magma beneath the continent is rhyolitic or andesitic... Then how flooding basalt is produced? For example Deccan plateau is also containing mostly basalt but why?

Flood basalt is formed by an eruption or series of eruptions of large volcanic episodes that cover vast stretches of land or ocean floor with flows of mafic igneous rocks (basalt lava flows). They are basically the magmas coming from hotspot below the mantle or within the mantle. A flood-basalt province is popularly known as Trap (Deccan Traps in India). source is from mantle hotspot having mafic composition so basalt in composition..
