NET Full Form

 

NET full form is National Eligibility Test which is a national level exam conducted by NTA with the guidelines released by UGC.

 

This exam aims to select candidates for the profile of Assistant Professor and JRF (Junior Research Fellowship). Candidates who wish to pursue their career as a teacher or researcher in top Indian Universities and Colleges appear in the NET exam.

 

The UGC NET exam is a computer-based online test that is conducted twice a year (June & December). You must fulfill certain eligibility criteria (educational qualification and upper age limit) to be eligible to apply for the NET exam.

 

NET is considered to be one of the toughest exams in India and has more than 1 million students appearing for it, every year.

National Eligibility Test (NET) is divided into 2 categories:

UGC NET

CSIR NET

 

 

UGC NET Exam

 

UGC NET full form is University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test. NTA is the conducting body of this exam which selects candidates for the profile of lecturer and researcher. There are 83 UGC NET Subjects that are of non-science fields such as English, Economics, Political Science, etc.

 

Till July 2018, CBSE used to conduct the UGC NET exam but NTA has been conducting this exam since December 2018, as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.

NTA CSIR NET/ CSIR UGC NET

 

CSIR NET full form is the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research National Eligibility Test which is conducted for 5 subjects from the Science stream. This exam also selects candidates for the profile of Assistant Professor and JRF. And, like UGC NET, NTA is the conducting body for this exam too.

 

Below are the subjects for the CSIR NET exam:

Physical Sciences

Chemical Sciences

Mathematical Sciences

Life Sciences

Earth Sciences

Q1. Who is eligible for the NET exam?

Ans. If you have scored a minimum of 55% marks (general category) in your master’s degree, then you are eligible to appear for the NET exam.
