    Asymmetrical ripples is not used to determine the order of superposition of beds. Symmetrical ripples, truncated cross beddings and graded bedding are very commonly used for determination of order of superposition of beds.

    Truncated cross beddings are used for determining the superposition of beds. As you can see in the diagram below, the truncated end indicates the upside of the bed and tangential contact indicates the bottom of the bed. See the diagram below for details.
