Total 5 compound. Benzoic acid, acetic acid, 2,4,6 trinitrophenol, benzene sulphonic acid, para nitrophenol Sodium hydrogen carbonate is a weak base. It reacts with the above compounds (having reasonable acidity) to form salt and water.

Among the given compounds, only three compounds will react with sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3). They are as follows: 1. Benzoic acid (C6H5COOH) 2. sulphonic acid (C6H5SO3H) 3. Acetic acid (CH3COOH) 4. 2,4,6-trinitro phenol (2,4,6−(NO2)3C6H2OH)  Sodium hydrogen carbonate is a weak base. It reacts with the above compounds (having reasonable acidity) to form salt and water.  Other compounds are either very weak acids (such as phenol and p-methoxy phenol) or neutral (such as toluene and nitrobenzene). Hence, they do not react with sodium hydrogen carbonate. 2,4,6- trinitrophenol has sufficient acidity, as the three electron-withdrawing nitro groups increase the acidity of phenol and stabilise the negative charge by resonance.

remember strong acids such as any carboxylic acids and sulphonic acids gives test

    eduncle-logo-app

alcohol doesn't give this test but picruc acid gives because it is most acidic
