Just like cycloalkanes, cycloalkenes stability also decreases with increase in ring strain. On moving from 3 to 4 to 5-membered cycloalkenes the ring strain decreases ( Larger rings can easily accomodate double bonds). In cycloalkenes, Carbon forming double bonds are sp² hybridised, So bond angle should have been 120°. The maximum deviation from this angle is in cyclopropene followed by cyclobutene and cyclopentene. Ring. deviation (strain) Cyclopropene. 120-60=60° Cyclobutene 120-90=30° Cyclopentene 120-108=12° Due to the lesser ring strain in cyclopentene than cyclobutene and cyclopropene ,. Cyclopenetene is the most stable among them. Thus stability order is; cyclopentene > cyclobutene > cyclopropene
