    As size of cation increase covalent character will decrease.but here Hg have greater size and still it is covalent.sor please explain about this

    Hg has f14 system in its inner core. Due to the diffused nature of f-orbital,very poor shielding is possible b/w the inner core electrons and the valence shell electrons. Finally,the polarising power and hence the covalent character increases down the group.
