Just use the definition of Onto , It is very easy to check. Take an arbitrary element from co domain and try to find it's Inverse image in domain, if you get it for all elements ,then it is onto or if you are able to find any point for which inverse image doesn't exist then it's not Onto. Take y= x from R to R ( onto) Take y =e^x from R to R( Note onto since 0 and negative values doesn't have pre image) Where as y =e^x (R to R+) is onto.
